I've not been able to find a way so guess it's something that would have to be implemented.

After planning a route I'd like a way to bulk change route points to make them all Via Points. I know you can go to each route point individually and change but this is very time consuming in a long route with lots of route points.

For me default behaviour that MRA does when route planning is that the first and last RPs are Via Points (Hand) and every RP I add in between is a Shaping Point (Balloon).

@Will-Brooks, The last sentence is correct. May I ask why you would want all (or many) route points to be via's that won't skip automatically if needed? I take it you are not designing scenic routes?

This functionality is not available in MRA. Can’t you export the route to a gpx file and then edit this file with a text editor? I think you must be able to see the difference between a routing and a via point in the file itself. After editing, save and import the file in MRA.

I too wish there was a multi select option in the route planner. Sometimes I want to make bulk changes or delete a number of points in a route. Doing it one at a time is laborious.

@Will-Brooks I think that multiple selection of waypoints can be handy indeed! I sometimes edit an existing route and want to delete the last or first part of a route. For now you've to delete one point at a time instead of a selection of waypoints.

@Con-Hennekens The reason I want majority or all Via points is because I want the audio prompt that goes with a Via point through the Garmin. I am indeed designing scenic routes but I also lead a lot of group rides and use Via Points to give me an audio warning for things like placing markers, gravel or potholes where I need to slow the group down etc. It's also great to have an audio prompt so I can concentrate on the road rather than the screen and know I'm following my correct route. I tend to plot a route and then split it into a number of separate routes for each "leg". Eg Start to first coffee stop, coffee stop to fuel stop etc. I don't tend to have any leg much more than 90-120mins of riding so I find that I can work with the 30 Via point limit on a Garmin route with no problems so when I stop I then load the next leg of the route. It also has the added benefit that on long routes, if the Garmin has a "tech moment" that needs a reboot or similar I then just have to load up that leg and can get back on track far quicker and easier.

@Will-Brooks, nice to learn about your methods! Is in a zumo the audioprompt limited to via-points?

Some more people understood your question better than I did 😉 I think that improving the web-service is a step taken after the release of Navigation Next and the implementation of some of the inevitable feedback. So who knows.

Hi Will, Garmin allows 28 way points (hard points) in a route. If you put more than 28 via points in your route, the Zumo will split them up

@Hans-van-de-Ven-MRA-Master Interesting! Today I rode a route with 29 hard (via) points on my XT and the route wasn't split. It definitely does display the behaviour you mention if I have 30 points, hence me saying about working around the limit.

@Con-Hennekens I think so but not 100% sure as I don't really use shaping points. On my XT, whatever I name the Via point in MRA, is spoken by the XT. So if my via point is named just with the address, the XT will speak according to the prompt - "In 200yds" or "arriving at" and then say the address. If I name a via point "Shell Fuel Stop", it will actually say "arriving at Shell Fuel Stop"

@Will-Brooks said in Bulk change of Shaping Points to Via Points - Feature request:

After planning a route I'd like a way to bulk change route points to make them all Via Points.

I like the way it is by default - because a Via Point that is not placed exactly in the center of the road makes you U-turn to the Via Point.

And sometimes there is a variance in map, or road slightly changed, and you did ride through the point but the GPS still wants you to do a U-turn. Then your whole route is screwed, gloves on, fumbling with the GPS.

Using Garmin Basecamp there is a video showing how to avoid this grief by selecting all the middle points on a route, and change them to "non alerting" (shaping points). I am glad that MRA does that by default, and the website for MRA is brilliant the way you can click along a route and only the start and end are "hard points" that must be traveled.
