New Beta! (v3.2.9)
-
Hi all!
After the progress report from last week (https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/3381/progress-update), we can now proudly announce that a new beta version (3.2.9) is on it's way!
The update will be available somewhere between today and tomorrow automatically for all registered Beta testers. What's new? (no real surprise - there are however two more changes!)
Offline maps
The ability to download a country or region for offline usage. Meaning that data consumption on the road will be drastically reduced. This feature mainly becomes useful when we can also calculate the route without using internet. This however won't be possible yet. Due to the complexity of building CarPlay, we will enable offline routing together with the CarPlay Beta release.Dark mode
You can manually choose between dark / light mode. At the current stage this isn't determined automatically based on the lighting in your current environment - obviously this is the ambition!Waypoint list & information
Quickly see an overview of all your waypoints!Tap on a waypoint to show it on the map!
Tap on the information icon or on the icon on the map to show your waypoint note!Bluetooth keyboard connectivity
A first iteration of controlling the app using a bluetooth keyboard!More information can be found here: https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/3391/myroute-app-barbuttons-control-our-app-using-a-bluetooth-keyboard
New menu
The previous menu wasn't in the style we liked so we made a new one. It's important that functionality hasn't been lost so please do provide feedback on this new layout!Android stability improvements
This update includes some changes that will (again) prevent the frequency of Android crashes. Please let us know if you experience any significant (positive / negative) changes about this!Known issues
The most important problem that remains is the battery usage, we will work on that in a later update! No need to report this issue to us unless you experience a significant change since a previous version.Future updates?
We are aiming for a first CarPlay Beta in the second week of March! The development of this massive feature takes quite some time and we're facing numerous challenges. We are tackling these in a very good way to automatically prepare the app for smooth Android Auto integration but this does take some more time than initially calculated. We wish you a lot of fun with these changes! Looking forward to all your experiences & feedback.
Cheers,

Awesome can’t wait to test this. -
Ja hoor!

If I may already:
I like the new menu, and the waypoint list also!
In portrait mode, on my phone, the these "pages" cover only about 2/5th of the screen. There is a slider that can, as it seems, only be used to close the page. Perhaps it is possible also to make the page higher? (and make that stick for the next menu-visit). That way we don't need to scroll down the menu list. Also there is no indication visible that the list is scrollable. People might miss the lower options. -
@Con-Hennekens Thanks for the feedback! Happy you enjoy the general layout improvement
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Awesome!! Good work

when it will come out for iphone? Thx

@Corjan-Meijerink oooohhh, dayum, I really like the waypoint menu entry, and the possibility to select a waypoint to start from, from the same wp list. Great thinking and a significant usability improvement.
In general I appreciate the menu upgrade! Suits me alot better... Although, just like @Con-Hennekens I would like the menu to be shown "full screen" instead of 1/3 to 1/4 up.
-
@StefanHummelink Nice to read your enthusiasm!
We’ll definitely further improve on this! -
-
Enjoyed the YT Bluetooth Keyboard video.
Very interesting.
Seems far safer than touching/looking at a screen which takes your eyes off the road.
I'll definately be looking into that.
Thanks also for creating an english version of the Video. -

The map download is great but ... can I specify to have the maps loaded to my SD card? I don't have much room on the internal storage.
-
@Doug-Robinson selecting external storage is something we wish to add!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink In portrait mode I would agree with the full screen menu but keep the size of the menu the same in landscape view please. Perfect for left hand operation and I love the swipe down to close. Would like the ability to change the order of the menu though

@Dave-J-0 said in New Beta! (v3.2.9):
Would like the ability to change the order of the menu though
That's a less good idea concerning multilingual assistance though.

Great update!
I was just about to write a 3.2.8 review when I saw the new update.
Basically, everything was smooth with 3.2.8, excepting the crashes.
For me, less 3 things, is perfect as it is.
The 3 things I would love to have are:
- Guiding in my own language (Romanian)
- Fixed routing (or no routing between shaping points - like track navigation) as an option
- ETA to the first VIA point (if I am not mistaken, for now you can toggle between ETA to first shaping point, or ETA to the end)
One short explanation why I would love track navigation for routes as well: when I make a route I spend a lot of time verifying it with navigation. Even if I place a lot of shaping points, navigation sometimes has a different opinion about routing, because the algorithm searches for the fastest route, while when designing it, I did it more curved.
But even without these 3 things, it still is the best motocycle app in the world!
Thank you!

@Vlad-Popovici-0 We hope the crash frequency is reduced in 3.2.9 but we are not sure about that. Looking forward to your feedback on this matter!
Considering your 3 feedback points:
- Has been noted and will be addressed before release.
- Will be considered! See my elaboration below.
- This should be possible already. By tapping the ETA widget you cycle between end / upcoming shaping / upcoming via.
You can use track navigation for routes by exporting it as GPX and importing that file as route-track. This route-track can then be navigated with the app as track navigation. Yes, this is very tedious and we will check the possibility to implement track navigation for routes too.
Cheers!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink I will check the ETA to via point, it seems I missed it.
I did that, exported to route-track, but I missed too much the route only features (like different points colour, or icons, or via points), so I stopped using it like that. Would be AWESOME if you consider implementing track navigation for routes too.
Best regards!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Just checked, indeed one of the toggles shows the ETA to the via. AWESOME!
So only 2 things to perfection
Also I love the new menu.
One little thing: when I start the tracklog, in the normal app, a notification says "Recording". In Next, there is no notification. I know the orange trail is the best indication, but an instant notification that you toggled it would be welcomed.

if you want to close the menu you have to move the slider down. However, if you want to close the information box shown after clicking on a waypoint, you can also click somewhere on the map above the information box. I like this very much and wondering whether this can also be implemented for closing the menu.
