Turn tracking on by default
-
I track all my trips with my Garmin now. I would like MRA to start tracking as soon as I am riding. Or at least every time I ride a route. Can this be made the default setting? Or add a setting that users can turn “auto-tracking” on or off? I tend to forget enabling tracking…

That is a very good suggestion, which I also support! I often forget to activate tracking and an automatism like "Start and Stop Tracking analogue to Start and Stop Navigation" would be very helpful (at least for the forgetful among us). The trackings created in this way are given file names such as "yyyymmddhhmmss".
The existing procedure with the manual start and stop can remain as it is. -
I like this. Could automatically turn on tracking and then at the end of the ride give a choice of saving or discarding the file.

Thanks for sharing this good suggestion!

I vote for @Steve-Autera his idea!

Change in company policy? Look here : https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/2978/geen-tracklog-na-navigeren/11?_=1675678338981
I also think it's a usefull improvement!

@Rob-Verhoeff If we make it a user preference, that’s fine! I won’t ever turn it on to be honest. When driving A-B, I do not need tracking and if I ride a beautiful day trip, I am meticulously managing my tracklog and photo’s so I won’t forget starting the tracklog

I seldomly track anything. In the old Navigation app it is unreliable. and starting a second app just to track... nah. If I already have the route, I am not seeing much advantage to be tracking it anyway. But is it was on and stored automatically, I would probably give it a go. Even if it was for the achievements in my account only

If not an option in the settings, could you expose this via broadcast intents on Android so we can use tools like Tasker to automate it for us?

@Evert-Kuiken
Personally I have no interest in Tracking my routes.
Some of the posts here seem to suggesting that tracking should be enabled by default with the user then opting not to save it.
Tracking is a battery drain in my view and I do not want to be forced to use it. -

Interesting! Would need to investigate this.

If we would implement this, for sure it will be turned off by default. When the user would enable this, the tracking will automatically start when navigation is started.
Personally I also don't really need this feature. It's been added to my list but not with a very high priority at this point. I do enjoy seeing all the comments in this thread and we will later determine if this feature is added - it's a small one anyway (just another user setting )

Just release the slider for those who wants to use this functionality if it is this simple!

I use the BMW Connected app for most of my rides because it works fine in combination with the TFT screen.
I always have the "Trip registration" function turned on. But that's mostly because there are a lot of items included in it.
I also often use the registered track. Nice to see why the route deviated from the planned ride along the way. (for example, because Garmin drivers sometimes drive differently than planned. And that is what TomTom drivers say, of course ) -
@Corjan-Meijerink I don’t like the idea of tracking automatically turning on. That used too much battery sometimes.

@Tumbleweed
The existing behavior "manually start and stop tracking" should be preserved. Automatic start and stop shall be an option. -
@Tumbleweed @Mopetenpit Please see this:

So no need to worry
