      Hello,

I would like to tour Morocco by Motorbike next March/April 23 Timeframe for about 10 Days. Can anyone share routes they have researched or ridden ? I would prefer paved road but would be happy with limited unpaved tracks. More into scenery rather than towns and touristy places.

      Thanks in advance
      Jim

        Hi @Jim-Smith-1,

While I can't help you myself as I'm really not familiar with Morocco as a motorcycling country, I've forward your question to a few people that might know some nice sights.

I'll share what little I have with you here.
Starting a route in a country I don't know, I'd always make my 'outpost' close to a major town. There's the key highlights like Casablanca and Marrakech, but those are quite touristy. They're also coastal cities, which leaves few directions to explore from.

My Fiancée is absolutely woed by a third city, Fez, as it offers much of the sun-baked and very colorful images that many associate with "Morocco". It's also much deeper in-land which means more opportunities to explore, so I'd personally pick that as a starting point.

Moving on to verify with Google Streetview (what scarce streetview is available) I'd get this:

Well, looks much better than dreary holland. Honestly.

Then I'd analyze the environment. A quick scan leads me to believe that Fez is indeed a very nice area to start exploring, if only from a technical point of view. Within 8 hours you can explore at least 4 different biomes, look at the image below! So much colour, it's almost edible. Beautiful!

Having established this, I've attached some 3D-screenshots, as the MRA Routeplanner 3D feature is generally what I use to explore when streetview is missing. Of course it doesn't replace the impressions that 360-degree camera's are able to recreate, but I always like to imagine that if there's no streetview, then there's that much more adventure!

Looks like travelling next to one of those lakes will not only provide you with stunning views, I can see quite a few twisty roads leading up here and there.

Of course, for twisty mountain roads you could also simply go into the mountains themselves. Look at that barely visible waypoint!

Ah, but the opposite is also possible. Traveling into the desert with only the backdrop providing any kind of interesting geology to look at.

@Andrew-Ross Thanks, honestly doing this little research exercise has also warmed my heart a little more to the idea of a roadtrip through Morocco.

              Thanks Timo,

I've done much of what you recommend already. I've also researched some of the guided tour routes borrowing some of their destinations and routes.

When I put a route together, Ill share here and of course update after I get back safely.

              Regards,
              Jim
