Hello all. New user here. Thanks for letting me be part of your community.

Am original from the US, but now residing in Thailand. I mostly try to do multi-day rides with interesting roads.

A little background - I have been using Garmin devices on boats, cars and motorcycles for decades. I've been using Basecamp, and Mapsource before it, for route planning since its inception. As outdated and antiquated as it is, I'm very comfortable and rather proficient with it. Until a week or so ago, I was quite happy working this way and uploading my routes to my Zumo XT. Unfortunately, the Zumo after a ride in torrential rains followed my a flight and I find myself in a country that neither sells nor repairs Garmin Zumo products.

I'm hoping to switch to using MRA using an Android Auto device on the bike. I trying to learn as much as I can from all your experience. I apologize in advance for ask newbie questions. I'm trying to accelerate my learning curve because I have a major 2-week trip coming up in a couple of weeks.

    Current rides: Ninja 1000, Ducati F1098S, Z1000 (USA); CB650F, Wave125 (TH)

Hi Glenn, I recently migrated over from Garmin and Basecamp also. You will find MRA very easy to pick up if you are proficient in Basecamp, it certainly is a lot easier to learn than basecamp....

I'm picking up the route planning pretty quickly. I'm planning to use Navigate Next with Android Auto on the bike. My biggest question is how does that compare to using a Garmin in practice, particularly on multi-day trips with lots of shaping and waypoints?

@Glenn.B I have been doing a multi day route as one big one then breaking them down into separate 1 day routes. I'm not sure which is better, maybe personal preference. I know there's a big update coming, which I am sure will give us even more features and things to play with. The workflow is a little different, but the more I use it the more features that I find and use. I have used it on the bike already and it seems to work pretty well with the Cardo and Android phone in pocket..... I would love a rain radar feature a la SABRE plugin..... I've started a wishlist anyway, I'll have to wait till the new release to see if I can scratch some off the list.....

I break my trips down into single day routes, as well. How well do things work if you decide enroute to skip a waypoint or otherwise make a detour off the planned route? Is it easy to recover the rest of the route using only the Android Auto screen?

By default on the phone app you can Auto-Skip Waypoints, but not Via points, so make sure that you put viapoints where you will definitely ride over them, not in the roof of the gas station for example.......unless you are 100% going inside to pay. Took a bit to get my phone set up, turn off battery saving and make sure the MRA is added to the "background running apps". try a tracklog and if at the end it's all over the place like in this pic, then likely your phone needs some settings adjusted.
