I would like to encourage you to think about integrating background color in the menu, perhaps optically even better.

With iOS / MRA and the selection "Dark" / "Night" for the display view, black is very dominant compared to the rest of the entire display content.

With iOS / MRA and the selection "Bright" / "Day" for the display view, white is very low in contrast, especially in sunlight.
Support for discussion:
- I would choose the MRA blue for "Dark" / "Night" as a suggestion for the background color of the menu.
Example 1 : Dark / Night = blue
Example 2 : Dark / Night = black
