Does the app on my phone use cell or gps

Hello, I'm wondering what happens to a route you are following turn by turn if you lose cell service? Will it continue to work or do you have to have cell service for the app to work? Thanks, Mike

The app itself runs autonomous without cell service, like google for the actual map around your actual position.
if you have downloaded the appropriate maps to your phone, you can use it completely off-line.

The tracking of your position in smartphones uses a potpourri of services to set your position most exactly: GPS/GNSS, W-Lan, Cell-Phone, Bluetooth, BT-Beacons in tunnels or buildings.

@Mike-wiruth, Like @Rainer-Treichel says, I just want to add that if you navigate tracks instead of routes, or use the "Navigate Route as Track" feature, it is advised to do that online. Doing that offline makes it less accurate.
