Keep android phone screen on

For some reason myroute and google map apps, apear to time out when driving and the screen switches off. This never used to happen the maximum time is 10 minutes.
Can this be overcome at all.

@Harv-0 when you are navigating the app will prevent the phone from sleeping.
If it does, some setting was changed on your phone (not the app)
