Offline Navigation and Battery Overheat
-
Im pretty sure this is user error on my part but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong so I would be super grateful if someone could help me out.
I make a route online.
I download it to my iPhone.
I have the offline maps loaded on the phone
I open the route from the downloads folder
I get a dialogue box saying route can't be calculated because App needs to be online.
I hit OK
Start navigating
Phone temperature reaches just under nuclear fusion and quits.Have all the latest updates on the App and my phone.
My bike is a Honda NT100 and I connect the phone using car play.I know I need to use the App offline but how can I do that when I'm prompted to go online in order to navigate?
Thank you all very much for the help.

@Dave-P-3 Do you have that experience with every route you create? A route you made in Routelab and downloaded to your phone should, in principle, be able to start and navigate offline as long as you have all the maps of the areas your route passes through available offline as well.
I don’t have that experience at all!
Regarding the phone heating up, there are various causes that you can read about in different topics here on the forum. Some of it can be traced back to the map provider, who is working hard with the development team to resolve this, but also how you charge your phone. Do you use a wireless charger or something else? Is your phone placed in direct sunlight during the summer?
I hardly experience this at all. Certainly not the temperatures you describe!

@Rob-Verhoeff Yes, I get this with every route I create. I download to the phone and open the route from the download folder. As soon as I hit navigate I get the "Offline Navigation Enabled" dialogue box and in order to navigate I have to turn off the offline navigation function.
I have the area maps downloaded to my phone and updated.
I think the phone overheat issue occurs when I'm in an area of poor reception but that is why I want to use offline navigation. It was so bad today I ended up having to hang my head in shame and use google maps to get home!

@Dave-P-3 Please share a route in this topic and let's see what happens if I hit the navigate button!

Ich habe das gleiche Problem, schlechtes Internet und bekomme trotz online Karten, keine Navigation. Ich will morgen in den Urlaub und stehe da jetzt vor einem Problem, habe keine Navigation.

@Rob-Verhoeff I have just tried to use a route offline and it appears to work. All the other downloaded journeys are tracks A to B. Could this be the problem?
-
@Rob-Verhoeff I just made a test route in MRA and built the same route that failed earlier but this time I used a whole load of waypoints and it appears to work ok. If I use the other version which is starting at my home location and ending at the destination without waypoints the App wants to go online.
Now I'm really confused!

Hope this works. As you can see its a track from point A to point B
It definitely doesn't work offline for me.
cheers -
@Dave-P-3 the route you shared is a track. Tracks can only be navigated on-line.
-
@Dave-P-3, Tracks need to be calculated online. I think it is okay of you go offline after having it started, but as soon as you deviate it needs to recalculate and hence it will need a live internet connection.
-
@Andree-1, Are you using tracks too? Then you will need to convert them to routes in the web planner. I am sorry to say, but it is not very wise preparing your routes the day before you leave...
-
@RetiredWingMan Thanks for that. I think I'd almost figured it out but appreciate the confirmation. Cheers.
-
@Con-Hennekens Thank you. I think I had more or less concluded the same thing last night after playing around with the app. Definitely a case of user error on my part.
-
@Con-Hennekens Thank you for the advice, much appreciated. I'm a retired airline pilot so planning an hour before departure is the norm for me. I guess old habits die hard!

@Dave-P-3 All awnsers given, I rest my case
