CarPlay Crash
-
1- I started MyRoute-app Mobile from Carplay on my car’s Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX head unit. When I turned-off the car, my iPhone displayed an error on its’ screen: ‘MyRoute-app Mobile has crashed’ do you want to bail out? Since I’d already stopped this was not a concern. Just doesn’t look good. This happens every time I start the app on Carplay and then turn the car off.
2- I was driving a route today using Carplay after having started MyRoute-app Mobile on my iPhone. After 30 waypoints in 20 minutes, Carplay crashed and crashed the Pioneer head unit. The Pioneer screen was black and non-responsive. The phone continued to navigate and give voice prompts but the iPhone screen was nearly black too. Weird. This has never happened before with my Carplay/Pioneer. After restart all was well; so not a physical problem.

I also used CarPlay yesterday with the latest version. And it was more unstable than the former version.
Black screens, total crash and not moving arrow and CP Display and iPhone.
It was a disaster for me in an unknown region late night in rain.
There should be a lot of locks via Testflight. -
@Gary-Clark thanks for sharing. This is something we’ll work on. We previously also got some signals that the app would crash on disconnecting CarPlay.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink before this latest version the crash happened all the time on disconnecting but the problem seems to have been resolved with the current version - 3.2.14 172.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink - rather than creating a new post, searched/found this one, good a place as any to provide feedback on the updated Apple CarPlay....had a 'crash' again today (up to date on latest versions, iPhone 11), where I was not even using the Nav app - it just happened to be what was last up on my truck's screen. I then changed the truck nav screen to another app that I was using. The next time I went into my phone to do something, the MRA Nav app came up with the 'crash' notification. Is this going to continue to happen or was it supposed to be part of the stability changes?
-
@GT-JWR there will be way less. Gonna check tomorrow if we kan find the cause of yours
-
@Corjan-Meijerink ok, sounds good. By the way, it did it again this morning...and did not use CarPlay.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink CarPlay crash events have not gone away since the latest update. As a matter of fact, they seem to have gotten worse - in my vehicle, after I stop, it will give a crash notice each and everytime - and the kicker.....the app was not used, let alone opened up to use.
EDIT: this morning, the app crashed 4x successively....and it was not being used. When I got into my vehicle, the vehicle display had a message: Open route in CarPlay, view? This leads me to believe that, although the route on the iPhone has been terminated and closed and is no longer visible on screen - the only indication that the app is closed, that something in the software is preventing the app from actually closing in the background, thus causing all the CarPlay related app crashes. Perhaps theres an error in the algorythm somewhere?
-
@GT-JWR I've actively worked on this today for the updated beta (https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/6308/updated-beta-v4-1-0-284).
Hopefully you can report back with positive feedback!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink FINALLY!! Two instances of CarPlay use and ZERO crashes!! The app even closed properly. Very good step in the right direction!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink sadly that was a very short lived experience...the app is back to crashing each and everytime, whether it is used (even opened) or not.
-
@GT-JWR Could you try changing your travel mode to 'motorcycle'? I had it set to 'car' and it kept crashing. Now that it's set to 'motorcycle,' it rarely happens. According to the devs, this shouldn't be an issue, but it definitely helps me.
-
@Rob-Verhoeff I will pay attention to that next time, pretty sure I had a mix of both, so will be good to verify that - thanks.
-
@Rob-Verhoeff - did 2 trips today in motorcycle mode, and the app only crashed 1x after the trip was done, instead of the 2-3 consecutive crashes it had done..still need to verify in vehicle mode.
-
@Rob-Verhoeff @GT-JWR I appear to have more crashes with Car mode and there have been a number of times where the white screen map is there on the phone when I disconnect from Car Play. Additionally, the map on Car Play at these times also appears to be simplistic/crude and not keeping pace with the actual position. Some very strange behaviours. However, I do not seem to have the same issues when Motorcycle mode is enabled; it all seems more stable. More testing to be done.
-
@Dave-J-0 be interested in hearing feedback!
-
@GT-JWR Agree. Some more testing over the next few days.

The map issue I reported earlier that always leads to a crash in Car Mode showing CarPlay and phone screenshots:
Whilst the position and track are correct, the turn directions are completely wrong and have been stuck on the first 2 turns from starting the trip about 1 mile earlier having done 2 further turns to be on the current road/position.
And in Motorcycle Mode for Car Play and phone all is correct:
