Carplay Audio Issue

Using Carplay today and I could not update the volume of the instructions which were quiet. Neither the steering wheel control not the phone itself would change the volume. Sometimes when I used the steering wheel it came up with a message like "Audio device is not active at present" or sometimes it just changed the music volume so after the announcement the music was louder. This was trying to change the volume whilst the app was giving the instructions (so the music had been muted).

I will say that the app seems otherwise quite stable in Carplay now, just need the ability to select routes from the car without having to revert to the phone.

I did note the iphone was very hot when I unplugged it (1.5 hours journey).
