After 5214km to Norway
-
Morning,
after 5214km to Norway with MRA, I am back without any issues, accidents, or so. With the best weather Norway had to offer, only 2.5 days of drizzle.
However, the cancellation of the HNL ferry back due to insolvency was annoying and the additional 600km through Denmark not so great.
Anyway, it was the greatest tour I made, and I was perfectly guided by MRA.
But I have some wishes and some suggestions, that could make MRA better as it is.
I am not sure If I should list them here, or in individual posts topic by topic? -
@Jörgen Happy to hear that! Welcome back.
Even more suggestions?
Go ahead and list the minor ones here.
If you have major suggestions and wish more community input, I'd recommend creating a new post for each major suggestion -
@Corjan-Meijerink there is always room for improvement.
I know that one or the other topic is being worked on and that I may be listing things twice or more here, I apologize for that. There are things in MRA that "I" am missing or have noticed and that would help me in my way of touring.
Ok, where should I start?

Petrol stations
I think the most important information is the one about petrol stations on the route. I have missed this very much. I need to know if I still have, for example, 65km range, whether I have to take the next petrol station or whether there is another petrol station in the next 40km that is on the route or very close to it. So petrol stations on the route still needs to be implemented. -
Road works/blocks
As we all know, the route calculation depends on the Here Maps data. As I have often read, road works or closures are missing or incorrectly entered, but as I have seen twice, the opposite is also true. The route was recalculated with a large diversion (85km) due to an alleged closure, but the road was passable without any problems. Here it would be nice to have a possibility to ignore the closures (as well as seasonal closures) so that the route is calculated normally again.
- Symbols
It may be due to my tablet, but I would like to see the icons for shops etc. a bit bigger to see them better / earlier.
-
Zoom button
The zoom button should disappear automatically after a few seconds without usage. -
Zoom function
After tapping on the compass to see the route completely, the zoom function should first enlarge the map around the current position when zooming in with the magnifying glass +, as long as I do not move the map complete. -
Confirmation button
The confirmation button to finish or skip something should be one/two seconds longer on the screen (or I am too slow?). -
Driving time calculation
The driving time calculation was too optimistic, especially in Norway. The maximum speed on country roads is 80km/h. Here was a 407km long winding road calculated with 6 hours, that would be an average of 68km/h, which is not possible to drive. A little more conservative would make more sense with 55-60km/h.
-
Undo function
What I would like to have is a undo button, for example to undo a skipped waypoint or for something else. -
Waypoint/s
I would also like to have a way to add some waypoints directly to the route. Yes I know it would be possible via the website, but for one/two waypoints it would be more practical in the navigation App. -
Route profile
Changing the route profile, such as avoid/allow motorway, fastest route, or winding between waypoints, would also be a nice feature in the navigation app. -
Route names
I have sometimes wondered which route I have just loaded? Sometimes you have different versions of a route with small changes, but where do I find the name of the route just loaded? I have not found anything about it. Would it be possible to show the name either in the waypoint list, in the menu or in the route full view?
Finally, a question I ask myself: The new function with the display of lanes and exits is very good and usefull, but do I need it for every exit I pass? Wouldn't it make more sense to only show this for important route changes?
I think that's all for now. I think points 1 and 2 are important, the rest would be nice to have.
What do you think?

At least not a suggestion, just a question of the behavior.
As you can see WP8 is coming and looks like it is well-placed.
After passing, I was still guided back, why?
Yes, the route goes to another WP and will come back, but WP8 is passed and should disappear. Or?
--
This confused me, why do I reach the target (with the checked flag) in 600m?
If there is a WP34 and still 24km to go.

Does that sound like this?

is being implemented, and if I am not mistaken, available from next update

Seasonal closures also handles this problem. If you disable seasonal closures in the flyout-menu before starting navigation, I believe this will work. Another method is to simply disable traffic-aware route calculation in the functional settings.
-
known issue indeed
-
difficult to solve, because many people have many different average speeds. Especially when driving in groups the average is much slower.
-
for A2B route yes, for scenic multipoint routes it would ruïn your route
-
great idea, maybe on top or at the bottom of the fly-out menu (three points)

I think showing petrol stations on the route is a useful feature. But I wonder about your use case. What if the 'next' petrol station turns out to be closed or out of order? If I only had 65km of expected range, I would always go to the first petrol station I saw, not gamble on one 40 kms away which would leave me with basically no options if it turned out to be unavailable for some reason. And for what reason?
Potentially running out of fuel is stress I don't need on my drives. My habit on multi-day road trips is to get fuel as near to the end of my daily drive as possible, every day, regardless of whether I "need" it or not, so I start every day with a full tank. My daily routes on such trips tend to take less than half a tank of fuel, so I could potentially easily do 2 days if necessary, but by keeping this habit, I never have to think or worry about fuel during the drive.

@Herko-ter-Horst , sure, but driving in Wester EU mostly gas stations are within a few kilometers. And then, if you see the next one is 65km, you certainly don't take the gamble if it gets close.
Gasstation fun begins when in a group one or two think, they can skip a fill

And the others take 20 minutes to put their gloves back on
One of the reasons that I try and avoid large groups.
