Route changes on split
-
Hello,
I have a couple routing problems and hope someone can help.
I'm putting the final details on a cross country route for IBA's 48 states/10 day ride. I've built the route using the Google maps default option. It's taken months of work, and I leave in two weeks. The waypoints and routing are critical because missing a stop or state disqualifies the ride. Calculated fuel stops are important as well, especially in the western US.
There are 121 waypoints and I've split the route into 9 days. Splitting is necessary because the Zumo can't process the entire route. This is where the problems start.
When splitting the master route, MRA will change the route inside the splits. The changes are odd, with occasional phantom waypoints and inter-waypoint routing altered for more complex paths. It's not consistent either. Sometimes the same splits are modified, sometimes not.
I submitted a ticket for the problem. MRA support was nice and prompt, but could offer no solution.
I figure I can live with this because I need only to carefully review each split for errors and correct as needed using the “segment” option and selecting “fastest”.
But when I attempt to save the fixed split it behaves as if the file is locked (it's not). I'll back out to “my routes”, select the newly corrected split and it's unchanged.
So I'm wondering if perhaps the split file routing errors and locked status are related. I have an open ticket for support, but am still waiting.
I'm hoping I've missed something obvious and reach out to the forum.
I really like MRA and it's a little late to get my head around Basecamp. So my fall back is to manually create 9 routes using coordinates for the master route waypoints.
Thanks for any help or advice.

@Mike-Hage First of all, the Google map is not a planning map, it is merely an overlay of the planning map underneath. Your planning map can be seen on the top line of the RoutePlanner. If you are using a Garmin, then your planning map should be the HERE map.

@Mike-Hage If you could share your complete route and indicate where you would like to split it, then I’m sure that we can help. Make sure the route’s privacy is set to public first.

@Mike-Hage, if you are using the segments options, you must be using the OpenStreetMaps instead of the Here maps.
Unless you have the free OSM maps installed on your Zumo, you should stick with Here. What you can do to check your routes easier after splitting, is make a copy of the complete route. When checking a day-trip, you can load the route to be shown in a different color using this option: Hamburger-menu / Routes / Add route / Choose the full copy.

Hi guys. Thanks very much for taking the time to help.
After I posted, I went back in to the master route and changed the planning map to HERE.
I've read this is the correct map to export gpx to the Zumo. Figured I had nothing to lose.
There was a warning that segments aren't possible in a HERE conversion. Since it seemed the segments could be the origin of the problem I went ahead. The route converted and I then created 9 splits.
And while I appear to have lost some shaping points, I now have 9 perfectly accurate splits. They can be modified and saved correctly.
I still don't understand why MRA wasn't splitting correctly, or why this conversion works, but it does. And best of all, I don't have to rebuild using GPS coordinates!
