Experiences South England

My findings of the last few days driving in England.
Did post during as well.- When moving through an area without mobile coverage the app starts to act up with lots of strange behaviour. Sometimes looping, unable to plan a route, although I had prepared at home with downloading the correct maps and routes.
- Battery usage sometimes high. ( I actually had to charge with a Quick charge powerbank instead of normal KTM usb connection) and even then it was sometimes problematic)
- App sometimes crashed when trying to start navigation
- Add via point for A-B routing desired.
- I am in doubt that A-B routing is possible without mobile coverage, there is always an issue it seems, no updated maps, no calculation option ,....
- When planning a route POI information shown is very limited for a large amount of POIs.
On the plus side:
It was great to use Route experts routes as a basis to plan further on and adjust to my own liking.
The app and routing did work most of the time ,it was good when in mobile coverage areas.Keep up the good development work.

Forgot to add as positive.
Once I deviated from planned routes and had a very curvy route planned by MRA. That was a nice experience. It got me on a few nice small road , I would not have found otherwise.

@Edwin_M, If you run the latest beta, there should be an choice to enter off-line mode when internet is needed bu not available. That, in combination with downloaded maps, enables continuation without internet.
-
@Con-Hennekens no not really. That resulted in the stated issues
-
@Con-Hennekens also when you are driving and suddenly end up in a no coverage area, i don't think that is a desired way it should work.
-
@Edwin_M, What is the problem with going into offline mode when you enter a no-coverage area? What do you think is the desired way it should work instead?
-
@Con-Hennekens In your proposed way, you need to stop.go to settings change mode etc. (take of and put back on the gloves if needed)
I'd like the app to manage this for me. Online - offline can change any minute. i dont want to think about that, and centrainly not end up in a fault situation. I downloaded the maps and the route , so everything is availabe to do it for me.
-
@Edwin_M, No, if you are in a non-coverage area AND you need internet access due to a recalculation or something like that, the app asks you if you want to go into offline mode. A simple tap does it for you. But I think your wish will get answered to, because I understood that the MRA team is looking into automating that in a future version.

Am I misunderstanding Offline Mode in the current Beta?
If I have the relevant maps downloaded in the app and the relevant route in the Downloads in the App and I set the setting to Offline Mode I was under the impression I could stay in Offline mode indefinitely? Is that not the case then?
-
@Lynchy67, of course. That's the general idea. You just have to put your app in off-line mode. Else it wil try to use the non-existent on-line calculation.
It would be great if this could be changed to some kind of "hybrid situation". Try route calculation online and if not possible and being in the downloads map (or better: cached offline!) just use the local data. The app already does that with the offline maps. If available offline, just use it. Offline mode set to on is just a need for when you absolutely don't want to use metered data, even if available.

If so, when I'm riding I'm busy with both hands on the bars, so the less touches the better.
Therefore, I'd like the app to recognise that I've selected the option and to swap automatically (to and from offline mode), in order to give the best possible result without me having to make that decision for it.
-
I understand they are planning changes in this area. Even adding an option to allow automatic switching to offline and or online would help solve some of the issues.

@richtea-0, Yes it has been mentioned in the forum that work will be done to smoothen the experience.
