In the above thread @Uwe-Braunsdorf refers to the fact that BMW are using TomTom software rather than garming in thier Connected app. Does this mean that one should plan in MRA using the TomTom option and not the Here option which i have been using previously?

Yes, that is true, you can use the here map to create your routes, but compare them with the TomTom option in the Toolbox.
It is easier to create them in the TomTom map
