New Beta! (v3.2.7)
-
Ladies and gentlemen!
With a great sense of proud we are happy to announce another Beta version! 3.2.7 Will be available shortly. This update might not include the changes you expected initially (CarPlay / Offline maps) but it definitely does include changes you were silently hoping for
The biggest new feature is track navigation. No, not route navigation (as the app already supports) but you indeed read it correctly: track navigation.
You can now open any track or route-track and start Navigation immediately! We thought this wouldn't be possible but suddenly saw the lightThis means that you now do not need to convert your generated route-tracks, ridden tracklogs or imported tracks to a route. Simply open them and away you go! No more conversion to routes with waypoints placed in awkward spots or other painstaking issues. Less hassle for you!
Start navigating from a track!
We are very proud of this feature and hope you are able to test it. We are aware that this is an initial version of something we never tried (or even shared) before. Your feedback on this is therefore more than welcome!
We notify you when possible errors have occurred in the route calculation! You can choose to show these locations on the map.
Error in calculation
Coordinates where something odd is going on
Please see this video of Michel (in Dutch) where he already uses the feature! https://youtu.be/tgSFnLw2388
An additional benefit and perhaps the most fun part of track navigation is that you can now drive a quickly generated route using a selected curviness with the click of a button!
Generate a curvy route
Navigate with HERE!
Furthermore, this app also includes the highly desired feature to show the original route line. Meaning that whenever the route is recalculated - you will still be able to see the original route you intended to drive. In similar fashion, we now also show the recording tracklog on the map. We allow you to turn this on / off to your own preference.

We also improved the camera even more! Including the back button and a new way of selecting images from your gallery. This all should result in a more natural flow of taking and adding photo's.
Updated camera
Fixing bugs is also important! The issue where your location would not be shown on the map when the app was opened has been solved. We also made attempts to resolve some weird background battery usage on iOS! We are very curious if you still experience these issues.
What's next?
This month we will continue working on CarPlay and Offline maps! Furthermore we will continuously implement your feedback! Thanks for all your feedback! We will continue working on improving the app and look forward to your test results.
Cheers,
Corjan, Joost & Michel -
@Corjan-Meijerink Track navigation is certainly an unexpected but very welcome surprise. I'll have to go and request beta-access now to test it.
-
Wow. This is a pleasant surprise.
Thanks! -
WOW! Wasn’t expecting that curve ball.
-
@Steve-Lynch We like to throw out some balls once in a while
Hope y’all enjoy this update!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink
Definitely!
Feels like getting Christmas presents in February -
It was available already yesterday evening for me. Installed without any issues. I would like to have better weather for testing onroad.

You should have done that earlier
If I remember correctly this is exactly what you wished for in an earlier discussion: Track navigation that keeps the waypoints intact!@Corjan-Meijerink, Great feature, unexpected and therefore even tastier! From what I see on the pictures I think this will be a very Unique Selling Point for MRA!

Earlier, when track navigation wasn't an option, I was pretty sure MRA Navigation Next wasn't going to be part of my navigation solution anyway, so I didn't really see a point in participating in the beta. Now, it could be. I've signed up as a beta-tester immediately.

It certainly sounds promising (not sure how it handles waypoints yet, the text doesn't mention being able to navigate routes with waypoints as tracks, just route-tracks and track logs). Hopefully, my application to be a beta-tester will be processed soon, so I can start testing to see what's what.

@Corjan-Meijerink great update!!
-
@Herko-ter-Horst Correct, routes cannot be navigated as tracks as this point. As said, it is a very first implementation and extremely curious to receive feedback! Hope you are able to use this version already to your satisfaction
I’ll process new enrolments next week!

Awesome news with this version!
The track navigation is ALMOST what I desired the most. Almost, because I would love to track navigate the routes too, not only the tracks. Meaning, I would like to open the route, with all the waypoints and stuff, but navigate it strictly as a track, without routing. This way you get all the Next benefits, like voice, all the indications and speed limit, while riding the route like you intended to be, without having to add 100 more waypoints just to be sure the Next will not route it differently.
Also the "show original route line" only works for tracks, not for routes too. It would have been and awesome feature for routes too.
While messing around with these features I discovered a bug. I wanted to export with save as a .gpx (or with the download button), but I get an access denied and the "provide access to your files", however that permission does not exists for the app. (see images).

@Vlad-Popovici-0 Let's just see what the community likes / dislikes about track navigation. In theory we could also allow track navigation for routes but this would not work together with waypoints. Ofcourse we could let the user decide which way they prefer
The "show original route line" does also work for routes! In fact, the screenshot I posted here, was using a normal route.
The Android permission issue is something we identified too just before release! This will be fixed in the next update Thanks for sharing!
-
@Corjan-Meijerink I see, so track navigation + waypoints = impossible. Then, I'll use the routes as they were, because the information the waypoints and vias bring, with the icons and the colors, is too important to miss.
Routing at home perhaps is the problem with "show original route line". I will properly test it when the weather allows me to get back on the bike. Also, I think the "original route line" is considered the first routing attempt Next did, and is valuable if at some point Next will try to reroute it, but it is NOT the line you plotted with the Routeplanner.
Example the next image (also example of why I would have loved the idea of track navigating routes, because Next will butcher the route, since there are not enough waypoints added)
In this image, one would think is the "original route line", but Next routes it like this:
And I guess that is what Next considers to be the "original route line".
Anyway, thank you for the awesome work, any new feature is immensely appreciated!
BR,
Vlad -
@Vlad-Popovici-0 Correct! It’s the original route as started in Navigation
Edit: if you would turn off “from current location” in the first screen, it would probably match what you expect.
-
@Vlad-Popovici-0 The Android permission issue resulting in not being able to download files has been fixed in the upcoming update We aim to release this at the end of the week Edit: see this too https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/3239/navigation-crashed-after-taking-photo/4

@Corjan-Meijerink Did you get around to the enrollments already? With the new beta being out now and a planned trip on Sunday, I would like to get started with the beta...
-
@Herko-ter-Horst I've just completed them
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Awesome, just got the invite. Will start testing this weekend. Thanks.
