The voice part of the app gets confused

Two days ago I created a simple point to point route of approximately 120km. I copied the route to my Garmin XT and also opened it on the phone (iPhone 11) and ran both apps simultaneously. I was getting both sets of instructions in my BT headset. Initially I was very happy with the phone instructions as they were more "real world" than the Garmin instructions. For example "turn left on Smith St and head towards Jonestown" rather than just "turn left on C231"
AS the ride progressed the phone seemed to loose the plot and towards the end of the ride and I was travelling straight ahead for about 6 km the on screen map on the phone was showing the correct direction but the voice instructions were wanting me to turn down every side road I passed.
I will try this exercise again over the next week or so and see what happens.
