Way Points using CarPlay
-
Hi,
I have never used My-route Navigation using my phone rather a Garmin device. I have now started using my phone connected to a CarPlay device on my bike. The information on waypoints (hand icon) is displayed on the Garmin, but you don't get anything on the CarPlay version, so cafe's etc can be ridden past without knowing. Im I doing something wrong, or is this how the app behaves on car play. -

Here are some difference, first and general with MRA vs. Garmin and then between MRA and the transfer to CarPlay.For the Garmin you can plan a route on Basecamp with alarm at MRA Viapoint or no alarm at MRA shaping point.
At your Garmin the Viapoint is an orange flag at MRA a Hand, the shapingpoint is a light blue dot at the Garmin and a droparrow at MRA.
Viapoints are always announced in three steps of the distance to the target including target reached on the Garmin. For shapingpoints Garmis is quiet.
At MRA you can select which of the points will be anounced. No one, only Viapoints and all .
But there is only one announcement at 2 km before the VP and 700 m for the SP and a confirmation for the VP „you reached VP No x.“
the display on the phone shows you the distance and the Icon hand or arrow on the upper right corner, but this is not on CarPlay visible by CP restrictions (and on AA too). This icon is visible on the road and you can select for the lower left infofield which distance you will see. Final target, only next VP(Hand) or VP and Sp in the sequence you build them up.
For this disadvantage I find an own solution. At important viapoints on which I like to stop for a break I set about 1 km before this point a shapingpoint and then the announcement will noticed at 1 kilometer instead of 2 kilometers before, text you can set e.g „coffee break at xy, have your eyes on the display“ so I have about 1000 m to adjust my speed and pay attention to the road for a parking lot, entrance, whatever at your stop.
It needs a learning process and best a look on the available YT vids to detect the secrets of MRA. -
@Peter-Schiefer The lack of information about Viapoint is currently the biggest shortcoming in MRA. Whether on the mobile or in CP. This problem has been mentioned several times but unfortunately has not yet been resolved in an update. I am currently traveling in France and unfortunately it bothers me every day. Unfortunately, the information about upcoming Viapoints was removed for some inexplicable reason about a year ago.
Greetings from France, Edgar -

Hello Edgar, I cannot speak for MRA next a year ago. I haven‘ t used it due to the very disturbing „homograph“ problem with IOS 16. Only with IOS17 and a later version of MRA I began to use MRA with the beginning of this year.As metioned, I find a solution with announcement infos by own created standard wording and SP markers upfront to an important VP. But I use MRA in a car over the Car infotainment. Certainly a lot easier as on a bike with helmet, loud surroundings, perhaps only visible infos on a screen.

@Peter-Schiefer Thank you for that very comprehensive information Peter

@Edgar-Hofer Thanks Edgar

Not everyone shares the same priorities. In my opinion I get plenty information on upcoming waypoints. Distance, duration, a color category, the name comes on in display, even self entered text can be read aloud...

@Con-Hennekens
Ich was today on a Trip from Germany over Belgium to France. about 440 km. Everything works as expected, but one concern is Ongoing. The German speach engine has problems with the pronouncation of city names. Somtimes for German cities, but in addition now here in France. Could we improve this. -
@Peter-Schiefer, I think that would have to be improved by the TTS engine developer. I must say that, although it sometimes sounds very funny, I seldom have a problem understanding names. Some regions will always be problematic in that regard. check for example the names Lüttich, Luik, Liège, all seen on the road signs within a diameter of 25km for one and the same city

@Con-Hennekens I must have a different version of MRA. My CP shows absolutely no information about upcoming waypoints. No distance, no names, etc. I'll have to check the version.

@Edgar-Hofer, I am sorry, I was referring to the app itself. I missed the carply part.
