Just come back from a 115km route. As usual, plotted and downloaded and offline navigation enabled. However when starting navigation I get the message "cannot calculate route when offline" in spite of the route having been saved and downloaded.
Having started the route on line and then switched to offline all was well. It recommenced after stopping and several deviations were coped with well and promptly so almost all good.A problem not previously encountered was the phone turning itself off because of excess heat ( external temp was 31 degrees).This happened twice and after the second occasion I placed the phone directly in line with the air con vent. This solved the problem but the phone seemed to be generating a lot of heat and seemed to using alot of battery power.
I do realise that we are experiencing unusually high temperatures but I have not had this problem with the phone when the app was not running.
Any thoughts?

@Roger-Doidge on my motorcycle, I experience that the overwhelmingly majority of the time. I have an iPhone, and live in Texas - been quite warm as of late, so that doesn't help. It makes trying to use the app almost useless because you can harldly see it. I run the Nav app and a music streaming service. It only happens when running the Nav app - if I use Google Maps, or Apple Maps, it does not happen. It may have something to do with the excessive battery usage issue that MRA is working on with HERE. Hopefully this is the case and eventually a fix comes out.

@Roger-Doidge, for being able to start a rout offline there are three requirements:
- You need to have downloaded maps for where you are and for the entire route
- You need to have the route downloaded for offline use (you obviously do have that)
- You need to have the toggle for offline navigation enabled in settings. You probably forgot the latter?

Overheating is a combination of battery usage (mainly the HERE API's fault) and the screen trying its hardest to stay as bright as possible.
I've also experienced this (30-34C), and Apple even have advice on it (can't see the article right now), but basically it says 'the screen goes black to protect the phone from overheating, but you can still navigate by audio'. That comment is aimed at the Apple navigation app, not MRA, but the same advice applies.
The other thing to try is running in Dark mode. If you have an OLED/AMOLED screen, as most of the recent iPhones do, that uses less energy to light the screen up - potentially 30-40% less depending on how bright you have the screen / the auto-brightness is.
That may or may not keep the screen working.But ultimately, HERE need to help out a little too, which is what MRA are waiting on.

@richtea999 Navigating in dark mode isn't the solution because in dark mode the battery gets drained in the same way. Hopefully the discussion with Here will solve the problem

@Marinus-van-Deudekom @richtea999 i agree with both of you..this is indeed what Apple says, and it 'using dark mode' (which I predominately do, because I prefer it), is not a work around. And agree, based on developer feedback, it is mainly due to Garmin/HERE.
That said, in my opinion, too many 'work around s' are being presented. I realize this comment may offend people, however, it is true.
I do enjoy the app and the direction it seems to be going - just need to avoid the 'settle' trap with work around. Keep on keepin' on.

@Con-Hennekens All the three items you mention have been done.
I have downloaded the maps for the whole of France,where I live, my route is downloaded for offline use and offline nav is toggled on, but the app insists on going online to calculate the route.
This problem has occured so many times that I check and double check that all the requirements are met.
For most situations I can go online for the route to be calculated but if I can't do that then the app is unusable. -
@Roger-Doidge, Can you please check the version number of your app? And could you share a route where this is showing as a problem?
@Corjan-Meijerink, I am a bit lost by which features are Beta and which are not. Is my assumption that the last public version should be able to start routes completely offline correct?

Workarounds are just for getting people going again. I don't think anyone is settling with this problem. As customer of the platform there is only so much you can do what's within your reach. That's the wall we are hitting now.

No offence taken! Just saying what has worked for me, but there are enough variations in phones and how people set them up that you can't guarantee any work-arounds help.
I have three phones that I use, and I get varying results across all three - thats just how it is unfortunately.
The main driver (for heat problems) is how bright the sun is - that stresses all of them. The iPhone is the worst affected, the two Androids cope better.Whilst it's still summer I'm using the Androids, but I look forward to reverting to iPhone in autumn / after the fix.

@Roger-Doidge I just want to make sure that when you start a route, that you start it from the settibgs, Download folder.
