CarPlay - New Destination

I notice when using CarPlay that there doesn't seem to be an option to "Search for a Destination" to use as a normal satnav, in fact the only option seems to be to select the "Last Route" that you had open in MRA.
It seems very wrong that I have to use my phone to select either a pre planned route, or search a destination and then use CarPlay to follow the routing? Surely I should be able to search a destination or select a pre-planned MRA route directly from CarPlay?
The below is a screenshot of my CarPlay screen when I touch the screen, showing the only option available to me. Is this how it's expected to be, is this still in development? or is the plan for a very limited CarPlay?
