Apologies if this has been suggested and discussed already.

I'd like a "north-up" via option for the map. Most gps units have several display options:

    • route pointing forward in 2D
    • route pointing forward in 3D
    • north up in 2D

I personally heavily use the north up in 2 dimensions view of the map, because it helps me understand where I am on the map and stay oriented.

Actually, the other feature that my old Garmin Quest had that was EXCELLENT was that as I came to a place where I need to make a turn, the map would switch from North Up to Direction Up (or route pointing forward) and also zoom very far in to just show the details of the necessary navigation / turn.

This was the best of both worlds. Zooming in and switching to "direction up" makes it easier to understand if I need to turn left or right, but I returns the overall orientation of being North Up for the rest of the time.

    Thanks. Great work so far!

@lamelylounges you are absolutely right! This is something we will add for sure before the release 🙂

I’m glad it’s not just me that wants this.

I don’t know if it’s my age and the fact that I’m used to paper maps being north at the top, but I’ve never got on with the maps views that rotate to show direction of travel at the top. If something goes wrong, such as road closures, the rotating maps make it hard to orientate yourself. At least with north up you can think “I need to head west, so I’ll take this direction” to get back to where you need to be. With rotating views you first have to figure out which way west is and the keep track as the map keeps rotating.

I usually find that when people get in my car they tend to comment on my north up view and say they find it confusing.

It’s good that we’re all different, and that’s why I like it when software gives options rather than being forced into the developer’s way of working.

Life would be boring if we were all the same, but it would certainly make software developers’ lives easier
