AI pricing is too high
-
Great work on such a feature-rich beta.
I see the price for the AI component has been set at €9.99/month.
This is a beta, and you want feedback, so here's mine: this is too expensive. An initial fee (covering the development work) is reasonable, but the monthly charge should be significantly less.
I already pay OpenAI $20/month for a lot of AI capacity. I can do effectively limitless route planning (and way more) using that capacity I've already paid for. It's not integrated into MRA, but all the AI tokens I need are already paid for. For me, €9.99 is very high; €3-4.50 would be a more bearable price if it had to be paid monthly. Or €50-80 one-off, no monthly fee.
But let's have AI market-test a bit
Here are a few bits from ChatGPT's analysis:"My preliminary assessment is that €9.99 per month is expensive for a usage-limited AI add-on to a route-planning product that customers already pay for."
"The broader market suggests that AI route generation is increasingly perceived as part of a premium planning service, rather than necessarily deserving a second subscription."
"At €9.99, MyRoute-app risks charging almost the price of its existing premium route-planning functionality simply for AI assistance, while imposing a relatively tight usage ceiling."
"The more serious problem is the credit allowance, which may discourage customers from experimenting with the AI.
An effective AI route planner ought to encourage iteration. A customer might reasonably ask it to produce a scenic route, shorten it, avoid a particular town, add a lunch stop and then reconsider the afternoon section. If every revision consumes credits, the customer is effectively penalised for exploring possibilities. A more attractive commercial promise might be unlimited minor modifications, with usage limits applying only to substantial new planning operations."
"There are three distinct economic cases:
- Customer already subscribes to ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro: AI add-on must justify the entire €9.99 through integration and convenience
- Customer users free ChatGPT or Claude: Strong alternative for occasional planning
- Customer has no AI subscription and wants substantially more usage: MyRoute-app's €9.99 may look attractive, but with far narrower functionality vs subscribing to Plus/Pro at $20/month."
"My recommendation would be to test €4.99–€5.99 per month with a more generous allowance.
I would also test a pay-as-you-go option, such as €4.99 for 400 credits without expiry. It would suit users who plan several outings or one major tour occasionally, rather than every month. The value of a recurring AI subscription is particularly questionable if customers do most of their route planning in a few concentrated periods each year."

Definitely appreciate this feedback and we will continue to evaluate.
The biggest factor you cannot ignore is sponsoring.
So all major AI companies are in a major race. They want you to take subscriptions. Then at one point all subscriptions are going to be more expensive. We all know what happened to our streaming service prices post covid

This is the same. We unfortunately don't have billions to "sponsor" your subscriptions with us. API pricing for AI integrations are much more expensive than your personal subscription.
As said, we will look into this feedback.
The major benefits of the AI Routeplanner are that it's a fully integrated one click solution with additional benefits. Prices cannot be simply compared. If you want to do your own comparison, try getting the same results with your own API token and see how much you are suddenly charged

@Anonymouse I think this is a great addition to planning a multi-day trip. Do you make several trips a year? If so, try to plan them all within one month. That will save you money.
Once the AI tool has generated the combined routes, you can certainly fine-tune them manually. It's really about getting the overall picture of the trip right. That's something I actually enjoy handing over to AI for a change.
And suddenly, that €10.00 doesn't seem like such a big deal in your holiday budget after all.
I'm not going to take out a subscription for a longer period either. There's simply no point. Unless, of course, you want to run the rain radar over your route before every trip you make

Is it possible for you to explain how de AI planner works? what information does it use? does it use my routes already or the routes in de library?
Does it already use information from myroute platform? -
In support you vindt the manuals also for AI..Dutch version https://beta.myrouteapp.com/manuals/web-ai
