only one language for the forum
-
I've wanted to write it for a long time, I'm doing it now... I notice that many people write in English, some in German, some perhaps in Dutch, however... if you go and translate a page where there are answers in English, some answers in German, of the answers in any other language you don't understand anything of what you are reading it would not be the case to adopt a single language for the Forum, now all the other forums do it I don't understand why not MRA
-
There are forum channels in 6 languages, if you ask a question there in the language of the channel, you will also receive an answer in that language (if all goes well)
Otherwise, use translate.google.com -
I think the fairest and most logical way would be to stick with the language the thread was started in.
That means it is responsibility of each person responding to adhere to that rule, i.e. its a polite request, but to make it mandatory would be a little draconian.

@richtea999
Exactly! I understand that it also happened to you that in a post there were answers in various languages that the translator in that case is unable to translate... -
I always post in English regarding announcement on comments on non Dutch posts. So when you talk German, I will answer in English
For Dutch posts, I will respond in Dutch
-
@Corjan-Meijerink, same for me, in German too if it is only small replies. I am more comfortable reading German than writing it. And reading German is usually way easier than reading their English attempts
@Aiello-antonino, I do not agree (AT ALL) that most forums are just one language. I also think that if we did only English, a lot of your fellow countrymen (if your name does not disguise your origin ) would not understand much.
On the other hand, in this era of technology and AI, installing a tool like Deepl (deepl.com) is almost a nobrainer.
Oh, and I do really appreciate people writing in English, because I catch myself often to not taking the effort to do the translation. So if someone wants to appeal to other peoples knowledge or opinion, it is best done in a language spoken by the majority. So you are doing this great!
-
@Con-Hennekens if you think that my compatriots wouldn't understand much (are you calling us stupid perhaps?) do you think that by reading a page, where there are messages in German and others in English, they can understand more?
-
@Aiello-antonino got your point and it's valid - luckily, I can read and speak all three languages
-
@Aiello-antonino, Ho ho... I am not calling anything of the sort. Is this your thanks for my attempt of helping you? In my personal experience from many holidays to your beautiful Italy, not many people speak English very well. That has NOTHING to do with stupid. You are making false accusations...
-
@Con-Hennekens Thanks for the help, I know very well that there are translation tools, the fact is that, Safari for example, which has an integrated translator, is unable to translate 2 different languages on the same page, which is why I wrote this post of mine, on we agree with the fact that in Italy many do not speak English, but this also happens in France and other countries, the new generation will certainly change things... I hope!
-
@Aiello-antonino, Certainly, I did not intend to pinpoint my wordings solely to Italy at all. In fact, my adage is, "If we introduced English as a second language in all countries, we would understand each other much better in one generation."
No hard feelings, okay? -
@Con-Hennekens no grudge
-
i am dutch and i try to use english on forums. sometime i see reactions on dutch posts that are strange and then it is often that translation is be used so question got an other meaning. there are some members that answer great by give the reaction in let say dutch and english. maybe that would be also give a more clear understanding.

We learn 4 basic languages at school in Belgium by the time we are 18. I have also studied Italian in addition. We shouldn't make it too easy for English speakers either, and certainly not Americans.
Language is not only language but also culture and enriching.
There are plenty of applications like the very good German DEEPL and SayHi that provide quick and efficient translation.Let everyone do their thing in the language they want and much respect to the Dutchman(s) who got MyRoute out of the ground. Dutch is also their mother tongue.

@AWDC-LAO Did you perhaps feel involved? you are showing the lack of respect by replying in a different language than that of the post... I have not belittled any language! so I'd say you made an unnecessary comment

This was proposed a long time ago and not only once. But a lot of people don´t care.

@Aiello-antonino strange remark about language of reaction. he did replay in english. first dutch and then english. same reaction in both.
-
@Bouke-Ent, ik ben er niet voor om alles 2 talig te doen. Iedereen kan makkelijk zelf een translator plugin installeren, lijkt me. Het is alleen een kwestie van fatsoen om vragen te stellen in een taal die veel gebruikers bezigen. Als ik een vraag stel in Swahili krijg ik waarschijnlijk niet veel respons. Het is dus ook in het belang van de vragensteller zelf.

Kweli kabisa!

@richtea999, Deepl does not know Swahili apparently, but thank you (translate did! )
