Apple CarPlay - After Commercialization Release
-
v4.0.1-188
After the release, every time out using CarPlay, the following has happened:
- Incomplete spoken navigation
- over 30+ nav instructions started - 100% never completed the instruction
- at least 5 spoke absolutely nothing. NOTE: only one waypoint between start and finish of route, and it was in the middle of a long straight road, no where near an intersection and placed correctly on the road
- close to a 3 sec delay before navigation voice heard
- Incomplete spoken navigation
-
@GT-JWR CarPlay is still under development and will very much improve in the future. ️
-
@Bart-DM just find it odd that spoken navigation worked as intended before the release, and not so much after...leading me to suspect a broken link in programming somewhere in the switch over.
-
@GT-JWR Ok I understand that. Meanwhile, do you listen to the radio or spotify or something similar?
-
@Bart-DM yes...I'm not sure where your going with that though?
Up until the release, the music (radio, spotify, sirius xm...you name it) would go down somewhat in volume while the spoken nav was easily heard. And even better, my vehicle has the ability to adjust each volume seperately - which was a pleasent surprise as well.
-
@GT-JWR Yes I know. Try playing Spotify (or a similar app) and see how the speech is then. The problem has come since you can control the volume in the app in my opinion.
-
@Bart-DM maybe I'm missing your point....it's not the volume that is the issue, it is incomplete spoken navigation (or none at all!!!) that is the issue.
However, for debate sake, I have played various sources, as mentioned above, and all was good before the commercial release and now it's not - so how is that related to the volume in the app?
-
@GT-JWR I know it has nothing to do with the volume. I'm just asking to check if the problem also occurs when you don't play music through the radio, but through an app in CarPlay.
-
@Bart-DM ah...now I understand what your getting at...that I have not, but I will make a point to do it and see.
-
-
Yes, something has changed in the latest version. Radio is not coming back (as before).

Using the new beta on my motorcycle with CarPlay, I have observed that there is a difference from the previous one related to the audio of the navigation instructions. Before, I used the navigation channel for the instructions.
Since the last beta for the same instructions, use the channel identified as "Vol. Audio."
This causes problems since the radio is cut when it gives an instruction and you have to reactivate it, or it is mixed with the audio of the music causing cuts in the instructions.
Is it possible to return to the previous operation, and use the navigation channel for the instructions?
Thanks!!!

@Theo-Lammerts idem hier gedurende rondtrip in Elzas

Additional feedback/follow up to this issue -
Once I understood what @Bart-DM was alluding to in our conversations above, I tested it. Spoken navigation worked perfectly IF AND ONLY IF using a streaming app (Amazon, Spotify, etc) as the music source. However, when using the radio as a source (FM, Sirius SM, etc) spoken navigation was terrible - it never completes an instruction, and completely does not announce ~ 30% of the time.
And I also agree with @arcangelenruta that the issue seemed to start around the time the changes to volume were made - it worked perfectly before this, but not after. I'm not sure which beta version this was done at, however, to prove/disprove that point, I would be willing to go back to the previous version (mid May 2023?...or one that did not have the volume changes done) to test it and confirm if this is, or is part of, the issue.
As it stands, for me personally, the use of MyRoute-app CarPlay in a vehicle is an instant no go moving forward if the issue is not/cannot be resolved. I'm fortunate in that my personal vehicle is a 2023 model that has it's own navigation system (Google based, I think) as well as having the ability to use any other nav app (Google, Apple, Waze, etc) via CarPlay that do work flawlessly. That said, I decided, and made the inivestment in, that MRA was to be my app of choice - sure wish to keep it that way!

Made a round tour through the Elzas with Apple```CarPlay in my BMW Z4. Nav voice instructions quality is good but random cutting-off the sentences, very unpleasant. Got the idea that memory/cache limitations on iPhone (13 pro) was the root-cause and hard reset of iPhone before starting navigation solved it, but unfortunately lateron this was not the case. Further I can hardly read the waypoint nrs on the screen....very unhandy. The last day a used the old MRA NAV app that I still have on my iPhone and finished the tour without voice or reading issues! Although the NAV audio instructions are shorter on the old MRA Nav app. I would ready like see a more zoom in picture of the nav-chart on the AppleCarplay screen as it was also on the old version. Plus the missing items like speed etc, but I understood they will come in new updates :-).

Hello again
Continuing with this problem, I tried to return to version 3.2.17, and the notifications worked correctly again. I have been testing it for almost 2000 kms and it has not failed on any occasion
