I'm preparing my iPhone for testing and I was curious if I need to uninstall the soon to be legacy MRA Navigation app?

Please disregard, just read the license agreement on TestFlight and it mentions that having the release and beta installed at the same time can lead to data loss. I'll go ahead and uninstall the legacy MRA Navigation app

@Robert-Lasirona have not done that... So far no problems.

@Robert-Lasirona, that's about the release of the public AND the beta of the same app. The Navigation app is not the same app πŸ˜‰ .

There will be a short overlap between release of Next and the old Navigation platform being taken offline. In that meantime you can still fall back to Navigation if needed (for whatever unlikely reason), but ONLY if you have it installed already. But I doubt it will be installable after release of the new app.

@Doug-Robinson, it was entirely by accident. Wanted to see if there was anything regarding the old app and new app conflict. Otherwise, just like everyone else, used as kindle for BBQ.

@Rob-Verhoeff thanks for the info... already uninstalled just in case as mentioned in the license agreement in TestFlight. There could be conflicts.

@Con-Hennekens Thanks!!! I like your signature and I'm starting to really like MRA apps. Now, if I can figure out a way to get it to display on my bikes TFT... I'd be in bliss. >;0)

@Robert-Lasirona if only mirroring the app on your TFT was possible πŸ™‚ Would be amazing if companies would support such features but that is not possible unfortunately. You could only achieve something like that if your bike has CarPlay / Android Auto

@Corjan-Meijerink Agreed, since it isn't support currently. The chance of it being supported in the future is slim. MRA is a great alternative.

BTW, will it work on Amazon Fire Tablet? I was hoping to do some parallel testing on the same ride with both configured for testing.

@Robert-Lasirona if that tablet is at least Android 8, it should work πŸ™‚

I'm pretty sure the Fire Tablet is Android, but I think Amazon locks it up pretty good. I tried a few ways to install TestFlight and MRA Navigation and they didn't come up as installable candidates for the tablet.

Do I have to bow out of Android testing? Or, will I eventually sunset in the process? That tablet is the only Android tech I have.

TestFlight is an app for iOS, not Android!

@Rob-Verhoeff Oh, right. My bad! I tried to install MRA App. Just started and already getting the processes confused. Maybe it's best I stick to one platform.

Amazon Fire is definitely Android, but there are several fundamental problems:

                                • no GPS
                                • you don't have access to Google Services, which MRA requires
                                • MRA would need to publish the app on Amazon's app store. Easy but yet one more hoop to jump.

For casual games, Fire tablets are very good value - they're reasonable well made, and good spec, but for MRA you're far better off buying a basic Google-enabled tablet.
Just check it's got GPS and a decent OS level and, say, 3 years of OS updates.

@richtea999 thanks for this! I'll look into it, any suggestions for a decent tablet for this function. I'll eventually use it for my motorcycle rides so I'll want something with a decent size screen.

@Robert-Lasirona, I believe some people are using the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3 for navigation. I would not want such a big thing on my handlebar though πŸ˜‰

The Galaxy Tab Active is an excellent choice, especially the ruggedness/waterproof design.
Except for one small hiccup - the price.

This Oukitel RT 3 has a good spec (and reasonable reviews), but I have no personal experience of it:
                                      https://www.amazon.co.uk/OUKITEL-RT3-Octa-Core-Waterproof-Bluetooth/dp/B0BWJ3PHMZ

Rugged, Android 12, decent sized battery, and a SIM slot if you need it to run it separately from your phone, etc. Maybe someone on the forum has tried one?

@Con-Hennekens thanks for the recommendation. It's a nice tablet and I would consider it with the exception of price. I don't need it to have cell capability, just wifi and bluetooth.

@richtea999 this sounds interesting. It would be interesting to get some feedback from those who are using it. I have a big bike so the size isn't intimidating. I was considering the Garmin Zumo XT2 until MRA caught my eye. For the bike, I need to make sure it can provide prompts and lane guidance. Features are there, but just a little late. From the feedback, it's being looked into which all I can ask.

Unfortunately I am forced to still use the old Navigation app, as the new Next app drains my battery even while charging, which is a big No no. I read that battery usage will be addressed in the next release. I really hope that solves the problem as right now I cannot use the new app for navigation on any decent distance ride yet 😒
