Following on from my post and thread of yesterday, where I highlighted a glitch in the latest beta version of the app, running on an Android Samsung S10 phone.

I have a possibly better evidence of the problem, as I can pinpoint it exactly. I also have a picture of my XT (running exactly the same route) which did not trigger an ‘off-route’ or recalculate warning, so I can be sure that I did pass through the point. I have my XT set to ‘Recalculate Yes or No’ so I can also be sure that no warning popped up on the device.

    The route is this one:

    https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/7296135?mode=share

The error occurs after point 37 has definitely been passed but before point 38 has been reached.

    A8877523-9365-4611-8946-F851F42BC5E3.jpeg

As you can see, the bike’s position cursor has passed shaping point 37 but there is an instruction to turn around to retrace one’s steps back to 37, before going on to shaping point 38.

The Garmin XT knew I had passed through point 37 and was, quite correctly, routing me on to turn right to point 38.

Then something really odd had happened. The MyRoute route then flashed back and forth between ‘Turn around to go back to 37’ and the ‘correct’ instruction to ride on to point 38. I have a video clip of it doing it.

Here is a sequence of stills of it:

The video also shows the recalculating image in the top left corner:

I can email the video clip if you would like it.

I think I just ignored the ‘turn around’ instruction and rode on through point 38. MyRoute then, I think, sorted itself out.

    Richard

I think Corjan needs the route to simulate this. Could be helpful to add it here.

@Richard-18 thanks for sharing! We’ll investigate this. As your position indicator isn’t displayed all the time it might have been a bad reception issue over a longer period of time.

          It’s I the opening post.

            Thank you, Corjan.

I did wonder that, though I am sure the bike’s position cursor only vanished completely when I stopped. Maybe it vanished as I passed point 37 or earlier, so the app didn’t know I had passed the point?

But hey, it is very easy to miss the obvious when riding along, thinking to yourself “….and where Mr MyRoute are you sending me?” whilst you look out for traffic, drunk Frenchmen in cars (I passed one, stopped right in the middle of the road on Sunday morning, fast asleep) and who knows what else.

Whilst I have had years with Garmin devices, I am new to:

            MyRoute
Using a phone as a navigation device
Using an Android phone, at all

So it has been a big learning curve. In this I have been helped by the forum. I am really enjoying the experience , so much so that I have put BaseCamp away after years of a Garmin love affair. I still thought like their GPS devices but having a choice and the ease of using MyRoute, with the new Beta app is great. The more I use it and learn its very good qualities (and little quirks) the more I enjoy it.
