First Beta Route Drive & suggestions
-
I created a 15km route on my iPad and drove it with my iPhone. The route creation worked beautifully as usual. When I drove the route my first impression is very positive. I love the new interface and the quick skip button especially. I've experienced no bugs yet. I do have a few suggestions and impressions - shared below:
1- Speed displays. I would prefer to have the actual speed on top and the speed limit on the bottom. The speedometers on both my RS and Miata are terribly inaccurate. I drive with the speed display in your app. So, I'd prefer to have the actual speed be biggest and most prominent. When my speed is close to the speed limit I can only tell which is the actual speed because the speed limit is usually in even increments. But if I'm going 65 and the speed limit is 60, not clear which is which. Anyway, I most care about the actual speed.
2- Confirmation prompts. As I drove, my impression of the confirmation prompts ranged from a) they're too small b) they're not needed at all c) they're just annoying and should be removed altogether.
I pressed the giant red 'stop navigation' button already; making me again hit a little 'confirm' is just annoying. Some apps have an overall app setting for 'prompts Y?N'. My choice would be 'N'.3- 'Your waypoint is on the right'. This message is spoken for each shaping point. I don't need to know that a shaping point is on the right. Further, when I reach a Via point I noticed that the message is not spoken. I would like to know that a 'Via point is on the right'. It seems like the message behavior should be reversed for shaping vs via points.
4- She's a hard woman she is. The voice prompt sounds like a demanding robot. I'm afraid that if I miss my turn when she tells me to 'take the third exit at the roundabout' that she'll beat the crap out of me. I started to anticipate her prompts by putting up my hands to block her blow....
Actually, the voice prompts do actually give excellent directions.
5- I noticed that if I place a shaping point too close prior to the next turn, the voice prompt for the turn will be skipped. Not sure what you could do about this; just something I noticed. Of course, I can just place my shaping points back further prior to the turn (or just place a single one after the turn) to avoid the problem.

@Gary-Clark Thanks for your elaborate message:
1: The vision was that the speed display in the app is secondary. Some people would like it the size it is, others (like you) would prefer it to be larger. This would need to be user configurable and added this as suggestion to the app.
2: Thanks, we will increase the size / layout of some prompts! A suggestion to disable them has been added.
3: Spoken instructions with regards to waypoints will be finetuned in a later update!
4: The voice will be configurable / better later too (is our ambition)
5: Correct, if instructions follow up too quickly on a previous one, they aren't spoken as it is unsure if there is enough time. For this, we follow the official HERE guidelines.
Once again, thanks for the feedback!
