First navigation comments
-
I did my first navigation and have a few comments. First because the navigator ignores "avoid" specifications, I had to add a bunch of way points. I used the tool kit expand function to add way points. Now the route is correct in the new navigator. The Expand function added several waypoints close to turns. As a result, the navigator kept telling me how far to the next waypoint and basically ignored upcoming turns. I almost missed entering a highway because of this. The old navigator did not provide updates on way points and was more focused on turns. I found the constant updates on way points to be distracting and very annoying. I would much prefer to have these notifications turned off.
I also noticed that I could not adjust the volume of voice prompts unless an announcement was in progress. It seems that for each announcement the app has to open a connection to the speakers. On my phone, this caused a noticeable delay in the voice prompts. I was getting prompts indicating something 1 km away but did not hear it until I was 0.6 km away. Also, the "turn now" prompt was late and would occur when I was already turning.
When I'm traveling on the bike I use an old android phone with no cellular/data service. I use wifi to download maps and to download routes. This generally works well but sometimes if I missed a turn or took a slightly different route and the old navigator would want to access the internet to re-plot the route. So, I need the offline operation working before I can start testing on the bike in the spring.

@Doug-Robinson Thanks for your comments!
- Voice prompts regarding waypoints will be configurable later. As a whole, the integration with waypoints will be improved
- Voice prompts configuration is something that will be added later too!
- Offline maps is scheduled for early 2023
Cheers!
