route Cruising through Cranborne Chase - any good?
-
I got the above mentioned roundtrip around Salisbury (from Routeyou) and am wondering if anyone is familiar with this route and if it is any good.

If you have some local knowledge I would appreciate your input.

@Inge-Bakermans I haven’t ridden this route but I can say that the area around Cranbourne Chase is very nice. It’s classified as an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
-
@Nick-Carthew Brilliant Nick - will keep this route in my itinary. Am using your Dover - lands End route as my base route.
-
Hi @Inge-Bakermans. Excellent, I hope that you have a great tour. I will be publishing the collection of routes for my Southern England tour on Facebook soon, possibly today.
-
@Nick-Carthew Thanks am sure I will - been missing good ol' blighty . Have changed your route into Harwich - Land's end - Harwich. Booked the ferry the other day so no more going back .
If you would like to keep track of my endavours - when on a trip I write a blog - will start with youtube recordings this year as well: https://ingebiketravels.wordpress.com/ . If you are going to read along let me know for then I will start writing in English.

This is literally down the road from where I live so I know all the roads well.
I’ve tweaked the route onto what I think are some better biking roads still with lots of nice views but some nicer roads to ride on.
Let me know what you thinkhttps://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/6918993?mode=share

@Handscombmp Brilliant - insiders knowledge - will compare the 2 routes and very likely will go for yours. Super!!
Any chance you have an indication of how many hours it would take?
-
@Inge-Bakermans
Would probably take around 4hrs without stops. If you want I can tweak it to include recommend food and comfort breaks? -
@Handscombmp If you could do that - that would be absolutely amazing . If you have any ideas on have to see sights or beautiful vista stops...... am open to any and all suggestions.
-
@Inge-Bakermans Yep, not a problem. What sort of riding style are you doing and how long are you wanting the ride to last with stops? Any limit on maximum riding time?
-
@Handscombmp I am a love to see what is around me rider - ride a Can-Am Ryker rally trike. Will be riding the Cranborne as a daytrip so in and out in say 8 hours. Love the smaller country lanes, a good cuppa or two, nice pub lunch somewhere along the way, history, nice vistas. In general just would love to get a good feel for the Cranborne. No off-roading unless it is on pretty smooth gravel.
Hope the above helps.

@Inge-Bakermans
Right I’ve done some tweaks to it. Same link. It now includes a stop at Compton Abbas airfield for lunch, a refreshments break in Mere as well as visit8ng the British Army’s signalling museum.Let me know what you think of it as I can tweak it if you want stuff added or removed.
How many days are you in Salisbury for out of interest
-
@Handscombmp Brilliant! Thank you! . Been also doing some online searching and will probably also have a quickish stop at Stourhead, Hod Hill & Badbury Rings.
Will be in Salisbury for 4 days (at least that is the plan for now) - 2 to visit the town, 1 to do a sidetrip to Old Sarum & Stonehenge and 1 for the Cranborne roundtrip.
-
All worthy visits!!
Personally living with it in my doorstep I wouldn’t worry too much about spending two days exploring Salisbury itself and I’d just spend a day. Then put the other day to good use going else where. Caen Hill Locks in Devizes is worth the trip and has some lovely roads to get there! -
@Handscombmp Thanks for the advice. Though already have seen the locks - cycled along them a few years ago.
Also am using Salisbury to relax and rest a bit before continueing my trip towards Lands End.
