Route Preview
-
I do find it surprising that there is no route preview capability. Ideally one with the ability to run a route at increased speeds.
When planing complex routes it is something we use a lot - we are trying (presently failing) to migrate from Sygic.
-
You can. Select a route and instead of navigating press here:
It's not an obvious icon, but I think space is at a premium - hence no text saying 'Preview'.
-
Unfortunately, that is not a route preview in the real sense of the word.
It doesn't run the actual 'navigation'.
It just shows the map overview. -
@Eugene7 Tap anywhere on the screen and the animation runs (takes about 3 seconds to start, as it also shows a quick overview before animating).
Tap again to stop.
The one bit I couldn't find was if you could fast forward to a later part of the route. I was hoping the progess indicator might slide, but it doesn't.

@richtea999 - Doesn't work for me at all...
All tapping on the screen does is remove the circular buttons. -
@Eugene7 sounds like you didn't hit the icon properly. It should transfer you to the web page and display a screen as the one below.

All tapping on the screen does is remove the circular buttons.Having tapped the 'Animate'/'Preview' icon this is the next screen that i see:
As the screen says:
- either tap the map, or
- drag the progress bar
Note that this is all from within the app, but you can do the same on the web, i.e. use the MRA RoutePlanner website.
Once you've opened the route, either:- drag the progress bar at the bottom, or
- tap the 'hamburger'-shaped menu (at the top of the Waypoints list) -> Animate -> start preview
Website view:
Animation settings:
You can even record it and share that with the rest of the group.

Yes, animate somewhat does what @Eugene7 wants.
However, you don’t see a true route preview where the route is simulated as if you drive it (including all instructions etc).We as developers have a tool to simulate the route but I don’t really see a reason to expose it to users
-
@PETER SLATE
The Garmin Route Simulator will simulate all road speeds.
So if a road is a 60 MPH road it will increase to 60 MPH.Sadly in the UK, many roads have had the speed reduced.
-
Again, coming from Sygic (at least we are trying to migrate away from Sygic, but the limitations of MyRoute App are causing issues...), the Route Preview option, with the ability to define the playback speed as a multiplier, is very useful.
Unfortunately, the on-line map overview suggested above is not at all the same thing...
-
I'd be interested to see the "On-line Map Overview from Sygic" if you have a screenshot available?

I can't keep myself from asking: "Then why are you migrating away from Sygic?"
-
@Eugene7, choices are often a trade-off. Depending in what you think is most important. Personally, I see no reason why I would be watching a simulated demo of a ride I planned. I'd rather go riding . I think dev time is better spend on other things.

As posted elsewhere, we are just trying to see if MyRouteApp can perform as we need for our tours, and post requests for new features, as well as report what we see as bugs.
As for Sygic, it presently has a major issues with generating inaccurate routes when multiple waypoints are in use, with unnecessary detours and loops.
As a consequence we have been evaluating MyRouteApp, which most of our group purchased a long time back as a backup. But Sygic do promise a fix...
And Sygic provide a real preview within the app, not on-line.
It shows you the exactly what you will see, and hear, when driving the route.I'll be honest, the response from users of this forum has really put us off remaining engaged in providing feedback and suggestion features for MyRoute.
Being told we are 'getting on peoples tits, and then locking the thread, is frankly appalling.
But I doubt we will be missed.
-
@Eugene7 I did honestly give you a friendly response. Yes, it was an honest response.
You could take it as a warning or as a threat. You sadly choose the latter.
We will miss all users that leave with a bad feeling but if that’s your choice, no hard feelings.
The reason I locked the thread was to prevent others (not you) from responding. Hence the open invitation to send me a message when feeling the needFeel free to continue contributing! Just understand the point I was trying to make and you will be welcomed with open arms!

To answer about this feature specifically: we have it as devs but not exposed to users.
It takes quite some time to make it useful! Now it takes forever to simulate a relatively short route. What’s the point in watching a simulation of 20 minutes for a 4 hour drive when you could already be at your coffee stop
We are a small team (2 devs) and need to spend time wisely. Here I am on the forum (while I should be watching Real - Bayern), in my personal time, to make sure our community is and stays happy After already a quite intense work week (see the results in the 4.1.3 announcement).
Our users don’t see the need for this (yet) and prefer we spend precious time on other features! If this picks up traction, we will definitely consider it
