Navigation is still running when the unit is switched off
-
Hi,
I don´t no if this is an issue, when I came home today. I did not stop navigation, I just pushed the power button in the garage on my device (Android Tablet).
At home, I placed the device on the table and suddenly the announcement voice said "turn left".
The device was switch off, no display, but navigation is still running.
I bit strange. -
@Jörgen if your tablet was switched off, the app really won’t work. If you just lock your screen and don’t stop navigation, it will indeed continue
-
I thought pressing the power button and the unit would go into stand-by.
As phones does it.
Just a notice. -
Just tapping the power button on a phone or tablet doesn't put it in standby mode. It just turns the screen off. This is true of all phones/tablets, and has been this way since their existence.

That´s may be right, but none of the Apps I ever used since their existence neither with Android nor with iOS, the App gave comments or sounds or something else, when the power button was tapped.

Literally every navigation app I have ever used has done that.
-
Navigation should stop when the destination is reached, preferably with an announcement along the lines of “you have reached your destination”. I know there have been some comments in favour of navigation continuing until manually stopped, but terminating the route at the destination is pretty much a universal standard.

That’s another point of discussion @David-Bonner
But we can agree that locking your screen won’t ever result in the navigation session being terminated. That’s just something you don’t want and no app does -
@Corjan-Meijerink the old MRA Navigation would pause Navigation if the screen was turned off. This was handy when stopping for a break, gas, lunch etc.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Oh, sorry if my comment was out of context.

Interestingly, over VERY many interactions with the 'Ride Connected' team (BMW Connected app). They make a point, and indeed have real issues (predominantly with iOS) with the phone screen being switched off. These of course may be technical issue not present in MRA.
All I know (over 5 years and 4 motorcycles) powering the screen off allows the connected app to sleep (and therefore fail) and indeed, allowing another app focus (e.g. spotify) can also allow the app to sleep.
Caveats:
BMW have to display on the TFT (not the phone) so why would you navigate with the phone off with MRA!
MRA do not have the media, phone issues, BMW have
This is purely, In my experience an iOS issue irrespective of settings in iOS for the app. e.g. 'Always allow xxxxxxx', 'Precise Location', 'Network Access', etc.
