Navigation between waypoints
-
Hi, new to my route app and navigation. But am a gold member.
I’ve created a 2400 mile route to the alps and back and have couple of questions I would like some help with.
-
The route has a total of around 20 waypoints. The travel time shown in the route list is cumulative. Can it be displayed as the time between each point. Obviously I could take the time for point 14 from the time for point 15 and come up with the difference, but it would be better if the app did it for me.
-
When using the route in the my route navigation app. I would prefer to navigate to the next waypoint rather than to the end of the route. Is this possible?
Thanks in anticipation

In the "Save As" menu in the Route Planner if you select ".pdf" it will give you what you want regarding timings.
However, be aware that it uses the OSM map so some timings may differ if you are using Here or Tom Tom Maps.Aditionally I suspect 20 Waypoints is nowhere near enough for a route of that length and whatever device you use may amend/recalculate some of the route.

@mick-k 2400 miles and 20 waypoints, so an average of one every 120 miles, seems a very low number and I wonder how well your route might work in practice.
I’d be inclined to break the route up into individual routes per day and use many more waypoints to shape each one and ensure you reliably go where you intend to, keeping the whole available as an overview for reference.
I can’t really comment on the time between waypoints question as I prefer not to get bogged down all that, but I know some do like that sort of detail and i do respect that - I’m sure someone else will be able to guide you on this.

@mick-k Your Sat Nav will definitely re-calcutale your route with that few waypoints. I'd suggest you break the route into daily routes. This is easily done. Go to toolkit-Split Route. Also set the Points as VIA points, which will stop the Sat Nav from doing its own thing, most of the time.

Thanks guys, if I’m reading this correctly the best way forward is to split the route into multiple routes, one for each location where I stop for the night.
Then add in more waypoints so that the navigator won’t redefine my route.
I’m assuming that if I add waypoints at each major road change that will be enough so the navigation app will follow my desired route.
I’ve had a go at splitting off the first two legs of my tour and it seems easy enough.
Thanks for your help.

@mick-k Make sure you have viapoints every say 5/6 km to make sure your route dus not deviate. Use the expanding "button" in the toolkit.

@Inge-Bakermans Muy buena opción la herramienta de "expandir" para repartir mayor puntos de Waypoints en la ruta creada. Gracias

@Xavier-c You are very welcome!

hi Mick,
as others have wrote, you sat nav will probably not take anything resembling your preferred route. there is lots of info on here, but adding more via/shaping points will definitely help ALOT. there are those who place a shaping point on every road they ride on, this usually keeps you on track, although some would also say that is a bit excessive.
it's really about what works for youI have read, with a lot of interest, the thread about the types of route, i.e. saving as 1.1gpx or 1.2 gpx, and I have had a play with both and can say that 1.2gpx will match your original planned and intended route.
there is also way of showing your actual track under your route and you would see if the satnav took you off route.
I won't try to explain, for fear of giving incorrect info.
