HERE updates their worldwide map data on a weekly basis

each update ups the version number with 1

the app has an internal version number too, even if no maps are downloaded

when you start downloading maps, the internal version number is used, so check for updates FIRST to update the internal version number, else you will be downloading older maps!

whenever you check for a map update, and a higher version number is found, you are offered to download it.

however this is no guarantee that any changes are explicitly in the map areas YOU downloaded before. That being said, there probably are (small or bigger) changes when you have downloaded complete countries or large areas.

pressing update effectively deletes all downloaded maps, updates the the internal version number to match the online available one, and re-downloads all map segments (even if there are actually NO changes in your specific map segments!)

Being behind with your version is no drama, since updates come in every week it is senseless to try to keep up. Usually refreshing your offline maps once before riding season starts is just fine. But when you need to download a new area it is wise to update first, and enable the new segment after that. That ensures that you are downloading the latest version.

Then switch to offline mode and test if all routes can be calculated. If so, you are good to go.
If not? Check the offline maps.

Same with a Garmin or TomTom, don’t update them the night before leaving and definitely not update while on a trip.
